Big Thanks to Our Users

Some of our users have recently gone to extraordinary lengths to help us improve our product. Our iPhone app was crashing non-stop for a small percentage of users, but for that segment it was a horrible experience.

Thankfully, a few of them stepped up and alerted us to the problems and in some cases even jumped through technical hoops to give us crash logs. With our latest version (0.7.1), it looks like a majority of these crashes are now fixed. Here are our personal thanks to each of our outstanding customers.

Brian Mundy – Huge thanks for putting in so much time to help us, from the countless email exchanges to app logging! And all of that while juggling roles as host of DIMACast, VP of Digital Imaging at Photomation, and President of Octane Creative Media. Your contributions were absolutely invaluable.

Galen Ward – Thanks for finding some truly unique crashes and helping us grab logs, TWICE – and once from the Estately office! Seems like there’s still a unique issue plaguing your phone – we’re on it!

Don Green – Thanks for giving us an early alert about our v0.7.0 crash! We hope v0.7.1 is treating you well.

TechCrunch on SwingVine Gallery

TechCrunch just covered SwingVine’s new app update featuring secret postcards. Thanks to Alexia Tsotsis for the writeup! Our favorite excerpt:

“an app that attempts to bring back some of the mystique and enjoyment of social photo sharing”

We look forward to seeing how users engage with the new features and rolling out additions that will bring even more magic to the social photo experience in coming months.

Maintenance Tonight 9:30PM – 10:30PM Pacific

We’re upgrading our servers tonight between 9:30PM and 10:30PM. Service will be unavailable during this time but will be back up to full strength right after. Apologies for the inconvenience, but this particular upgrade is a one-time event.

Tagging People and Social Permissions

You can now tag people on your gallery entries so they can see content involving them and save copies to their own galleries. Tag people by email address so they don’t have to already be on SwingVine Gallery. Unlike with other implementations, when your friends or family members make copies of entries they’re tagged in, they can edit those copies (titles, descriptions, adding / removing photos, etc.) without interfering with your original.

On a related note, we’re supporting a new “Social” privacy level. This is for folks who want their content to be somewhere in between being completely public and for personal viewing only.  When you set your default privacy level to “Social” under account settings, new entries you create will only be visible to others you’ve tagged or added to your gallery as contacts.

Get the v0.6 App

Our latest v0.6 iPhone App launched over the weekend. Get your hands on it for improved Facebook integration and syncing of edits from the website back to your phone.

Here’s another article on SwingVine Gallery from KillerStartups. Great quote:

“Are you fond of Flickr? Do you enjoy using FourSquare? If both questions were answered positively, then this new service will be one you would like to check.”

Skunk Works Goes Full-Blown

We’re always trying new things at SwingVine and lately we’ve been experimenting with the iPhone platform.  As we played around, what started out as a skunk works side-project got more and more positive feedback from friends and early adopters until it took on a life of its own.

Today, we’re introducing this new project as a full-blown product.  It’s called SwingVine Gallery and is available as both an iPhone app and web experience. Think of it as Flickr meets foursquare – a way to showcase photos online beautifully while layering on locations associated with those photos in a fun way.

Besides displaying your photos and places with visual panache, SwingVine Gallery breathes some fresh air in this space by adding fun and mobility. On the iPhone, the app lets you use flick-based navigation, a multi-shot camera, check-ins, and simplified photo organization to make managing your photo gallery more enjoyable and streamlined. On the web, SwingVine Gallery provides vanity addresses and travel maps to help your content shine as you share it on Facebook, over email, or via other social networks. And it’s all free!

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.  Look for many more new and exciting features on the horizon.
